This issue's lead

The optical fingerprint sensor never sees your fingerprint

What the sensor reads is the 4.07 %p of reflectance difference a ridge makes by touching glass. Which is why its real weak point is not a wet hand but a dry one.

PAPER
MR-TADF reverse intersystem crossing with the host's silicon swapped for germanium

Not a single atom of the emitter was changed. Swapping silicon for germanium in the host molecule alone tripled the spin-orbit coupling and doubled the rate at which triplets are turned back. Both blue and green passed 40% peak efficiency, and at 5,000 nits the germanium devices hold twice the silicon control. TCL CSOT appears on the author list.

Time-resolved photoluminescence alone does not fix a carrier lifetime

Fitting exponentials to a time-resolved photoluminescence decay to extract a carrier lifetime is the basic procedure in evaluating an emissive material. A Sungkyunkwan University group has demonstrated that the value is not uniquely determined. Entirely different coefficient sets produce almost identical decay curves. Measuring photoluminescence quantum yield alongside separates them, and deep learning resolves all six coefficients at once.

PATENT
Nine granted patents on Gen 8.6 OLED deposition and masks

Gen 8.6 glass is 2.2 times wider than Gen 6. And yet an LG Display granted patent binds Gen 6 full glass and Gen 8.6 half glass into a single sentence. Work it out with plate theory and the sag of the two sizes is almost identical. Using nine granted patents from eight equipment and mask makers, we confirmed the real bottleneck in this generation change, and included a simulator for calculating for yourself why the mask has to be made in pieces.

LG Display's maskless patterning, FLiPP

LG Display unveiled FLiPP, which draws pixels without a metal mask, and put forward 1.6 times the luminance, 2.4 times the lifetime and a 13% cut in power. But those three figures do not come from a new emissive material. Feed in the single number of a 1.55-fold aperture ratio and all three fall out of arithmetic. After checking the sums, we read the foundational patent of this technology family. Samsung Display holds it now, and the place it aimed at was the exact opposite of LG Display's.
